Trade names: Teak
Country of origin: Southeast Asia
Occurrence: From India to Burma to Thailand and Vietnam. The best known countries of origin for high-quality roundwood are Burma and Thailand.
Uses: Teak is one of the oldest woods in use. Due to its resistance to fungal and insect attack, it is ideal for shipbuilding. High-quality furniture wood for interior finishing and serial furniture production. Still popular furniture wood in Scandinavia.
Character: In the veneer sector, a distinction is made between „golden teak“ and striped teak. The wood is a clearly structured wood with an oily surface. The semi-circular pore growth zones of the wood result in a particularly clear striped or figured texture. The wood has a light-colored sapwood that is two to three centimeters wide. The heartwood has a yellow to dark brown color.
Special Features: The overall character of the very nice lively veneer appearance is given a warm character by the yellow to dark golden brown color.
